What are the race categories?
Teams and solo athletes can register in the following race categories:
TRIATHLON (8 and 24 hour)
Solo (women and men), Team of 2 (women, men, co-ed), Team of 3 (women, men, co-ed), Team of 4+ (open)
DUATHLON (8 and 24 hour)
Solo (women and men), Team of 2 (open)
Can We Change Our Team Roster or Category Registration?
You may change competitors to your team (or solo) roster and/or category after registration by mailing us a printed registration form with your new team roster and a check for the current fee difference plus a processing fee, see rule 9.10. You must pay the current fee for your new category/each new team member regardless of the original price. Please include reference to your original team and team captain and write "ENTRY CHANGE" on the top of the forms.

Can athletes on a team be swimming, biking and running simultaneously??
No. This is a team relay so only one person on a team can be on the course at any given time.
Can a recreational athlete compete in the race?
Absolutely! You can make the race as competitive or social as you want. The races are formatted to foster teamwork, camaraderie and strategy.
What is the nearest airport to Cherry Creek State Park?
Denver International Airport (DEN) is the closest airport, approximately 25 miles / 30 minutes drive to Cherry Creek. Visit Mapquest's driving directions from Denver International Airport to Cherry Creek State Park.
How do I get to the race site?
From I-225, exit South Parker Road and travel south for approximately 1 mile. Turn right on East Lehigh Ave. and enter Cherry Creek State Park via the east entrance gate. Continue straight ahead through the four way intersection for about one mile and follow the signs to Smoky Hill. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is giving athletes a special discount rate if you want to rent a vehicle.
Where can we stay before and after the race?
The Crestwood Suites, Aurora is our official race hotel and we have arranged a special discount for competitors and support, valid 8.29.08 through 8.31.08. Please call the 303-481-0379 and reference "24 Hour" when booking, or reserve on-line and enter promotion code "24HOT." We have reserved a block of Queen Suites (sleep two) and a limited number of Queen/Queen Suites (sleep four). Both rooms and include a full bath and kitchen/dining area. You can also stay in a campsite or RV site in the campground 1/2 mile from the pit area. Make your reservations early as the camp ground fills fast. What race insurance do I need?
USA Triathlon requires all competitors must have a $10 USAT single event permit or $30 annual license, which you can get at usatriathlon.org. A one day license will also be available at packet pick-up. USAT members must present their membership card at packet pick-up, or they will be required to purchase a one day license. You may apply the $10 one day license fee to the $30 annual fee if you send in a copy of a cancelled check and/or the receipt from the one day license to USAT.
What weather should I expect for the race?
Denver in August is generally warm, dry and sunny with daytime highs in the upper 70’s and night time lows in the upper 40’s. Check AccuWeather.com for the current conditions and forecast.
Where can we camp?
Camping is provided at the race site from 5:30 am Saturday August 30t through 9 am Sunday, August 31st. Camping fees are included in the entry for one vehicle (15 ft max length) per team. We provide port-a-potties and restrooms, trash removal, access to water and a limited number of showers. There are a limited number of electrical outlets available for charging lights. Please bring your own power strip if you plan on charging more than one light at a time.
Bring a tent, or what ever other means of camping shelter you would like. Many teams choose campers since park rules require us to stay on the paved parking lot (not on the grass.) Others will be camped right next to you too, so what ever you think would be appropriate for getting some rest and a bit of privacy.
Can we bring a Recreational Vehicle?
You can bring a RV, however vehicles over 15 ft long are not allowed in the pit area unless two or more teams share a vehicle and the teams involved let us know they are sharing when they enter. This allows us to pre-assign adjacent pit areas to accomodate the larger vehicle. You can also book an RV site at the adjacent camp ground (in addition to your pit area), 1/2 mile on the bike path from the TA. Make your reservations early as the camp ground fills fast. Can we camp on Friday night?
Camping is permitted on Friday night, and you can also set up your pit and transition areas on Friday afternoon if you wish (and then sleep off site.) We will be setting up the race site starting Friday morning, and will have security through Sunday morning. Your pre-assigned pit areas will be marked by 3:30 pm on Friday and this information (inclduing a pit area map) will be in your race packet. If you arrive early, feel free to hang out, but don't get settled until you know where you will be camping for the race.
Can I bring my dog?
Pets are allowed at Cherry Creek State Park if on a leash.
Are alcoholic beverages allowed at the race site?
Only beverages containing a maximum of 3.2% alcohol is permitted on park property. Possession of alcoholic beverages by anyone under 21 years of age is prohibited.
What exactly do the "quiet hours" mean?
The quiet hours indicate no music, keeping voices down, the loud speaker won't be yak-ing away, etc. General quietness ("keeping it down") while the race proceeds during the night.
Is there a specific leg order for competitors in teams?
Competitors in teams can compete in any order and at any time. This means a teammate can do consecutive legs, or take as many off as they want while other teammates compete.
Do legs have to be completed in the regular swim - bike - run or bike - run order?
Only the first three (two for the duathlon) legs have to be done in swim - bike - run order (or duathlon bike - run order), after that they can be done in any order. This allows you to "bank" swim legs on Saturday or catch them up again on Sunday to make up the required number. Please see the Rules and Regulations for more information.
Will there be cups or bottles available at the aid stations?
No, cups or bottles will not be available at the aid stations, however GU, GU2O, and H2O will be provided for your own waterbottles at both aid stations.
Will we be allowed to change bikes if we want to during the event?
There are no restrictions on equipment, other than those specified in the Rules & Regulations to meet USAT sanctioning requirements, so you may bring multiple bikes and change as you like.
What are the requirements for competing in the solo category?
Solo competitors must be 18 years or older or have written parental consent.
Can we add more team members to our team after we have registered?
Sure, if you would like to add additional team members to your team once you have already registered you may do so. For example, if you and Bob have signed up as a two person team, but then want to add John and Natalie to make a 4 person team, please just contact us and we'll take care of it.
Will swim caps be provided?
Yes, we will be providing swim caps.
Are non-racers allowed to accompany racers on different legs of the race?
USAT ruling does not allow non-racers to race along with racers, however due to the nature and spirit of the race, we allow pacers (no physical assistance or muling) on the run course after 8 pm on Saturday.
