“First off, and most important, had a great time at a race that was run with great esprit. (I’ve been racing since 1981, so this is not just post-race happy gas.) The personal touches – the movies, the morning donuts and Starbucks, asking folks what they want in the middle of the night… even your headphone rule interpretation – made it super cool.” – Steve Gibson
Current World Records:
Joe McDaniel: 24 hour triathlon solo, 266.7 miles
James Smith: 24 hour duathlon solo, 229 miles
Team GoFast (Adam Chase, Karen Melliar-Smith and Steve Waite) 24 hour team triathlon, 330.2 miles |
These races are about strategy and favor relay teams and individuals who can work, race and play together the best, not necessarily the fittest athletes. Competitors race over a 1/10 Iron distance triathlon or duathlon course (0.24 mile swim - 11.2 mile bike - 2.6 mile run), repeated for 8 or 24 hours. Athletes do not have to stay in swim - bike - run order after lap one. Teams and solos "bank" as many legs in each discipline as desired, keeping in mind that the ultimate goal is to "complete" the most "triathlons."
Suzuki's Newton 24 & 8 Hours of Triathlon + Duathlon are inspirational challenges for first-time athletes and seasoned veterans in an event format that foster camaraderie and teamwork. Each relay team or solo has a "pit" crew who provides technical, nutritional and moral support. Racers and crew bond with each other by working towards a common goal and sharing in their success. Everyone finishes: satisfied, inspired and energized!
